In early 2010 I was offered the opportunity to
make two instruments to represent Greek Musical
Instruments for the Musical Instrument Museum
in Phoenix, Arizona. The MIM is the only Musical
Instrument Museum in the world and has Musical
Instruments on display from every country and
recently opened in April 2010. It is a great
pleasure to now have two of my instruments on
permanent display which are now part of the
permanent collection of the Museum.
The 8 string Bouzouki features a natural walnut
bowl decorated with celluloid and abalone
highlights, abalone and mother of pearl inlays on
the soundboard and headstock and a traditional
double vine style inlay on the ebony fretboard.
The soundboard edge is finished with abalone
and traditional pearloid binding. The Tsoura also
has a natural walnut bowl and abalone inlays on
the fretboard, soundboard and headstock.
The soundboard binding is finished with a
traditional celluloid binding which has been used
on Greek instruments for many years.
