My instruments are all hand crafted and built with traditional timbers and traditional methods as used by many Greek luthiers, with the additions of a few modern touches such as modern finishes and decorating materials, adhesives and precision measuring equipment for accurate fret slotting, and not to mention my personal artistic touches.
All instruments are finished in a top quality traditional air dried nitrocellulose lacquer formulated here in Australia, which is polished to a high gloss luster. Once the instrument has been sprayed, it is left for weeks to cure and harden before the final polishing of the instrument is carried out.
Soundboards are made from quality aged European Spruce, Adirondack or Engelman Spruce.
Necks are reinforced by traditional methods using laminates of hardwoods which are glued together with an epoxy resin. The grain direction of each laminate is also orientated to counteract any natural tendencies of twisting. As different timbers are used in the laminated neck construction, these have a tendency to expand and contract at different rates, so epoxy resin will ensure that the laminates stay together. The necks are therefore very stiff and very stable as well. Generally we use five to seven laminates for our neck construction. We do not use Truss Rods in our instruments.
Modern adhesives are used which are more resilient to changes in climate and temperature.
African and Macassar Ebonies are used for fret boards, and are accurately slotted using jigs generated on a digital milling machine, for the ultimate in precision fretting.
Inlays are made from traditional materials such as abalone, celluloid, mother of pearl and wood veneers. Custom painted designs are also available. See our photo gallery section for samples.
The materials used are high grade selected aged lumbar sawn in a specific way for musical instrument use.
Instruments are given a period to "settle" before final adjustments and settings are carried out.
