Technical Information

 

My instruments are all hand crafted and built with traditional timbers and traditional methods as used by many

Greek luthiers, with the additions of a few modern touches such as modern finishes and adhesives, decorating

materials and precision measuring equipment for accurate fret slotting, and not to mention my personal artistic touches.

All instruments are finished in a top quality traditional air dried nitrocellulose lacquer formulated here in Australia,

which is polished to a high gloss lustre.

 

Soundboards are made from quality aged European Spruce or Engelmann Spruce.

 

Necks are reinforced by using laminates of hardwoods which are glued together with an

industrial strength epoxy adhesive.

The grain direction of each laminate is also orientated to counteract any natural tendencies of twisting.

As different types of timbers are used in the laminated neck construction, these have a tendency to expand and

contract at different rates, so the epoxy adhesive will ensure that the laminates stay together and remain stable,

especially in areas of high temperature and extremes of humidity.

Generally we use five laminates for our 6 sting bouzoukis and seven laminates for our 8 string bouzouki necks.

We do not use Truss Rods in our instruments.

 

Modern day adhesives are used which are more resilient to changes in climate and temperature.

 

Ebony fret boards are accurately slotted using jigs generated on a digital milling machine, for the ultimate in

precision fretting.

 

Bowls are made of traditional timber such as Walnut, Rosewood, Maple and combinations of these and are

available plain or inlayed.

 

Inlays are made from traditional materials such as abalone, celluloid, mother of pearl and wood veneers.
